In TCM folklore, Kidney 9 shifts focus through pregnancy. In the first trimester, it's traditionally believed to clear heat and support and protect early pregnancy, when the energetic foundation is considered most delicate. In the second, folklore links the Kidney channel to fear and anxiety, so the point is traditionally used to support emotional balance and calm.
By the third trimester it takes on its best-known name — the ‘Beautiful Baby’ point — traditionally used to support a calm, grounded lead-up to birth. In the ninth month, it's given as a single treatment, traditionally believed to clear toxic heat and dampness — folklore links this to newborn skin concerns such as cradle cap, eczema or jaundice.
